Giuseppe Varano, the
tenor who performs the main role of Doctor Faust, explains:
I have a perception of
this story as "romantic" and with a "redeemer" end, in which
everything finds a meaning, representing the culmination of the
work. My character, difficult to both voice and interpretation,
rapresents a deeply unhappy man, who decides to sell his soul to
Méphistophélès - the "Devil of dissatisfaction" - in exchange
for youth. On his journey, he meets people who are very
different between themselves: the cheerful Wagner, the vital
Marguerite, the diligent Valentin, and the sentimental Siebel.
