Biography

 

 

Giuseppe Varano began to sing when he was 16. In 2002 he graduated at Conservatoire “A. Corelli” of Messina. From November 2002 to July 2003 he attended Corso di Alto Perfezionamento Vocale Voci Verdiane organized by Fondazione Arturo Toscanini of Parma with Alain Billard (singing technique) and Beppe de Tomasi (acting). He is actually improving his tecnique and repertory by studying with Maria Cristina Orsolato. His operatic repertory includes Gounod, Donizetti, Massenet, Verdi, Puccini, Mascagni, Cilea.  He performed La traviata (2003) in Busseto directed by Franco Zeffirelli; Madama Butterfly (2006) at Teatro Carlo Coccia of Novara with the conducting of Marcello Rota; Galuppi's Didone abbandonata (2006) at Teatro Caio Melisso of Spoleto, with the direction of Lucio Gabriele Dolcini, for  the  celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale foundation.

 

 

The Opera, as first modern representation, has been recorded for Bongiovanni. He performed Lucia di Lammermoor (2006), in Chiostro S. Niccolò of Spoleto, directed by Gabbris Ferrari and conducted by Laurent Campellone. This opera has been repeated in the following theatres: Stagione Lirica Regionale dell’Umbria, Teatro Morlacchi/Perugia, Teatro degli Illuminati/Città di Castello, Teatro Verdi/Terni, Liryck Teather/Assisi and Teatro Comunale/Todi. In August 2007 he performed Rodolfo in a very particular  Bohème, set in Paris in 1977. He also played Manrico in Il Trovatore (September 2007); during November and December 2007 he performed Madama Butterfly in the role of Pinkerton for the Network of Teatri Lombardi, with Liping Zhang making Cho Cho San, directed by Hiroki Ihara. Giuseppe Varano made his international debut in Yerevan, Armenia, where he played the Requiem by G. Verdi, on April 2008. In January 2009, by his performances as Rodolfo in Bohème, he inaugurated the new year's day in Rimini, at the Auditorium Palacongressi, and the operistic season of the Vittorio Emanuele Theatre in Messina, with the conducting of Carlo Palleschi. In April 2009, once more in Messina, he also has made his debut as Alfredo Germont in La Traviata, role that Giuseppe Varano played again in August in Montreal, Canada. Particulary important is also his debut in Faust at the Teatre Principal in Palma de Mallorca, Spain in June 2009, and his first performance in July 2009 at Theatre Comunale di Bologna, in the role of Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly. Giuseppe Varano has debuted with the Symphonic Orchestra of Milan, directed by Roberto Abbado, playing  Eight Romances for Tenor & Orchestra by G. Verdi and L. Berio. In October 2009 he played his first Verdi's Macbeth as Macduff at the Poly Theatre in Beijing; from November 2009 to January 2010 Giuseppe Varano has been Rodolfo in Bohème at the Opera House of Leipzig and of Koeln (January 3rd), in Germany. In January 2010, he has also made  his very important debut at "Massimo Bellini" Theatre in Catania, as the protagonist of a production of Faust that has inaugurated the 2010 Operistic Season of the Sicilian theatre; in April 2010 he has played the Donizetti’s Requiem for the first time, at the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore in Bergamo. During July 2010, Giuseppe Varano has been once more Pinkerton in a wonderful Madama Butterfly set in the Olavinlinna Castle, in occasion of the Savolinna Opera Festival, in Finland; his performance was considered breathtaking by one of the most important opera magazines worldwide, the German Das Opernglas. In September and October 2010 he was Rodolfo in La Bohème at Dusseldorf Opera House. 2011 starts with his debut at Graz Opera House, in La Traviata, directed by no less than illustrious Peter Konwitschny; meanwhile, another production of La Traviata at Madison Opera, represents the first performance of Giuseppe Varano in the United States of America. In August 2011 in Montreal, he debuted as the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto; he inaugurated the operistic season of the Mikhailovsky Theatre (Saint Petersburg) with La Bohème and as Alfredo he took part to a production of La Traviata at the Pittsburgh Opera. In the last part of 2011 Giuseppe Varano was engaged in Leipzig playing Rodolfo in La Bohème and Macduff in Macbeth, both directed by Peter Konwitschny.
Through the years, he has taken part in several concerts all over the world which have ever been appreciated by public and art criticism.
